Albeo is a table designed with Retegui, a longtime collaborator specialised in the craft of marble. A table designed for both indoor and outdoor use for which we combined two materials: on the one hand we used marble stone, the company’s material of choice and on the other a special kind of concrete.
For the latter, we used UHPFRC, a type of concrete used in the field of architecture for free-standing, light constructions which doesn’t require any metallic reinforcement. It’s a ultra-high performance concrete that is reinforced with fibre and permits an unprecedent level of formal freedom for this kind of material. One of the components of all concrete compounds is sand. In the case of Albeo we opted for an unconventional source that makes a set percentage of the sans used. Retegui collects the marble dust generated in all its machining workshop processes and is able to recycle it adding it in the UHPFRC compound.
The moulded concrete structure is built following a hand-drawn honeycomb grid that provides both lightness and robustness to the table and serves as a support for the thin and quite geometrical marble table top. Both materials are therefore bonded to create a strong and long-lasting piece. The concrete legs fit into the alveolar architecture under the table so it can be transported flat. There are three shades of concrete that harmonise with the different natural stones selected for the collection.
