This was the first chair I designed on my own. It was born out of a search for a certain element of structural complexity, which gave rise to a shell full of organicity. There was a degree of harmony between the different elements that make up the chair, which were not entirely rational, but which created a pleasant sensation for me. I had studied Saarinen's work in depth and I have no doubt that he was the central inspiration for this chair. 

The process of defining the shell was very manual at first, using techniques more common in automotive design. It is one of my longest-lived creations and I think it stands the test of time well, which is reassuring.
