Our projects often start with a discussion. We were talking about the possibility of having seating modules move in a somewhat predictable or controlled manner.
We stumbled upon this simple yet clever “mechanism” of having two straps attached in a certain way which enabled a very interesting degree of freedom for the modules. It’s a system that has been used in a handful of objects throughout history and we thought had great potential. When applied to a modular seating collection it could bring an element of surprise that is both attractive and practical. The implications of adopting this kind of attachment made the project very interesting yet intriguing. Normally the attachment parts in seating systems tend to be afterthoughts and in Bonds’ case we put it in the center. It’s a playful twist that brings a new approach to how we interact with a furniture
Society is in constant evolution. Companies and organizations are too. The principal in which Bonds is based permits for a space to evolve in a very natural way. Adapting to new realities is becoming the norm and the ability to easily change a space layout depending on the needs without the use of tools is quite interesting.
Within the context of collaborative environments this flexibility allows for subtle movement, carried out by the end-user to adapt to different levels of privacy or big rearrangements by space managers with minimal manipulation. Its systematical and modular nature is a practical tool for architects and space planners as well.
During the design process of Bonds the aesthetical aspects came well after the concept. We had a strong idea but wanted for it to be as approachable as possible. Its shapes are very linked to the logic behind, yet we tried to define it with simple and soft lines that fit the evolution of the Teknion portfolio, adding just enough details where we felt necessary.
